Course Description
This course is intended to introduce the student to professional
practice in the solution of design problems. Team-based problem solving,
feasibility studies, concurrent engineering, design methodologies,
shop procedure, and professional communication are aspects of this
course. The course will require students to design and build engineering
systems in teams and to enter their finished systems in three competitions
(for grade) against those of other teams.
Prerequisites
An ME master plan must be on file for enrollment
Rhetoric and Writing Studies 200 or Liguistics 200, Engineering Mechanics
220, Mechanical Engineering 195, 275 and Engineering 120 with a grade
of C or better.
Text Book
The text The mechanical Design Process 2nd Ed. by David G.
Ullman presents domain-specific information on design practice and
theory, analysis, ethics, etc. Students will also be provided supplimental
course materials through the bookstore.
