Injection Molding Simulation Using LabView

Operation

The method of operation for the Injection Molding VI boils down to simply running the Extrusion VI using a variable Die Length, and a correspondingly variable resistance to flow.

Convert

The Conversion VI is used in two places in order to convert the user's input into the appropriate units. This conversion incorporates both the Centimeter into Meter conversion as well as the Degrees into Radians conversion.

Distance

The Distance VI calculates the distance the fluid has traveled in the most recent Time Step. This value is then added to the total distance traveled, and used in the next iteration as the Die Length.

Extrude

The Extrusion VI is identical to the one used in the Extrusion Simulation with the exception of having the flow resistance term moved outside of the VI. This was necessary in order to create a variable Die Length.

K

The K term is a formula node which contains the formula

Where the R terms denote the Radius of a segment, the M terms denote the number of branches of the segment, and the L terms are the segment lengths.

If the flow is within one of the segments, the value for the length of that segment is computed as the current distance minus the sum of the previous lengths.
